Purple Shirt Scholarship

The Purple Shirt Volunteerism Scholarship is a program, administered by the Delaware National Guard Youth Foundation, created in honor and appreciation of the hundreds of volunteers of Camp Colwell over the years. It aims to inspire and recognize our Guard Youth who volunteer in our local community. Without our “purple shirt” volunteers who gave thousands of hours over two decades of service to Camp Colwell and our other programming, the DNG Youth Foundation would not be able to accomplish our mission and serve our youth.

Volunteering helps our youth gain skills such as leadership, good communication, time management and decision making. Teens who volunteer perform better at school and also build a stronger resume for their future. Volunteering is about giving, contributing and helping other individuals and the community. It means working with others to make a meaningful contribution to a better community. The scholarship directly looks to award the person who demonstrates courage, strength and wisdom by community impact through their own volunteer service.
